Dramatic Weekend/Week For U15 Thunder
Dominant performances at tourney and home marred by unclear tie-breaking rules and injury.
After going 3 and 1 at the Brantford Tournament of Friends, the U15 Thunder were victimized by an unclear tie-breaking rule that saw their rightful first place finish in their pool dropped to a non-qualifying 3rd place.
However, the team put that behind them and played a dominant two periods on Thursday night versus the Brantford 99ers before the game was called due to a serious injury to Mason Lewis late in the second period.
With the Thunder up 2 - 0 Lewis crashed feet-first into the endboards and sustained a broken leg.
The game was curfewed as the team trainer and onsite medical professionals attended to Lewis on the ice until the ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.
Special thank you goes out to Dr David Robinson who happened to be watching the game, and Carrie Hartman as well for helping look after Mason on the ice.
Thankfully, Lewis was in good spirits when team staff reached out to him at Mcmaster Hospital, and although the injury will likely be season ending, they are confident that Lewis will make a full recovery.
We ask that you keep Mason and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Great teams are made so by going through adversity, and this team has shown a lot of heart in reaction to these early season setbacks.
Next game is this Sunday at 6pm at Dofasco.
