All Member Communication
To All Coaches and Bench Staff/Players, Parents and Spectators of Lawfield Minor Hockey

It has been noted on several occasions that conduct of our members may have been inappropriate at times.  This has been observed in different scenarios throughout the city.  The values of our association have been challenged and we are looking to change things moving forward.

The mission of Lawfield is to provide a rewarding hockey experience for all participants and provide exceptional programing with a focus on fun, safety, teamwork and respect.  As we move into playoff season, we know that emotions can become heightened.  We want to remind everyone that this is a kids’ game, which is run by volunteers.  At no time should anyone participate in foul language, engage in abusive behaviour towards another child, volunteer, or official.  We hope that moving forward everyone can enjoy a competitive season but conduct themselves as they would in a place of business.

We have met with the Referee Committee and have brought forward the many concerns heard over the season.  They have assured us that communication will go out to their membership and that moving forward you will see some changes.

We would like to remind everyone that there are multiple views of a game. The view as a parent/spectator, coach, convenor and referee are all different views based on where you sit in the arena.  We would encourage everyone moving forward to consider this before you criticize someone for a call, as arguing a call has never had a successful outcome.  Should you really want to make change, reach out to our executive to determine if becoming a volunteer or referee is a possibility for you, as there are shortages in both areas.

Remember, this is a game, humans make mistakes, and you will not always agree with the calls. Going forward, abusive behaviours will not be tolerated and individuals; volunteer, player or parent/spectator, may be suspended or removed from the building. This could include being banned by the City due to their ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy.  We would hate to see any situation get to this point and hope that everyone understands that we are all here for the same reason; for our kids to have a safe and enjoyable place to play.
